Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data calcd handles when you use the site. The short version: you do not need an account, the calculators run in your browser, and everything we measure stores nothing on your device and identifies nobody.

The figures you type

Every calculator runs entirely on your device. The numbers you enter, such as a property price or a salary, are used to work out your result in your browser and are never sent to or stored by us.

Analytics

We use PostHog to count which calculators get used, and it runs in cookieless mode. It sets no cookie, writes nothing to your browser's storage and leaves no identifier behind, so when you close the tab there is nothing left of you on this device. That is why the site has no cookie notice: permission is needed to store things on your device, and we store nothing.

Counting visitors without an identifier on your device takes one on PostHog's side instead. It is derived from your IP address, your browser's user agent and the site you are on, combined with a random value that changes daily and is deleted once that day's events are processed. The result cannot be reversed into your details, and it cannot link one day's visit to the next. Your IP address is used to work it out and is then discarded rather than stored against your events.

We also count what gets used: which buttons and links are clicked, where on a page people click, and which clicks land on nothing. It is the same deal as counting a page. Nothing is stored on your device, nothing identifies you, and it tells us which calculators people actually operate rather than only which pages they open.

Two limits on that. We never record the page itself: there are no session replays, because a recording captures the figures on your screen and that would need your permission. And the parts of a page showing your own worked figures are excluded from click tracking outright, so the result you came for is never sent to us, even as the label of something you clicked.

PostHog processes that data on our behalf and holds it on servers in the European Union, and Cloudflare carries the request on the way there, on behalf of PostHog and under the data protection terms PostHog publishes. We measure usage in aggregate, we do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell your data.

If a page breaks in your browser, that failure is reported to the same place: what went wrong, and which page it happened on. It is a report about our code rather than about you.

What we do not do

  • We do not ask you to register or sign in.
  • We do not collect names, addresses or contact details.
  • We do not sell data to anyone.

Your rights

Because we hold no account or personal records about you, there is no personal profile to access, correct or delete, and nothing in our analytics points back to you. Under UK GDPR you still have rights over any personal data. There is no analytics opt-out to offer you, because opting out is what an identifier makes possible and there is no identifier: what we hold cannot be traced to you in the first place. If you would rather send nothing at all, a content blocker will stop it, and the calculators will work exactly as before.

Changes

We may update this policy as the site grows, for example if we add new features. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
